More Production Photos

The Uno Effect

It's hard to believe that our School Production has now been and gone!  We had so much fun preparing, practising and performing our three items and are looking forward to the next one in 2014.  Here are a few pics of us getting ready to go on stage and performing.

Ancient Greece

Our current Integrated Study is: Ancient Greece Our Big Idea is: People who lived in the past were not that much different to ourselves, even though some of their cultural practices seem very different to how we do things today. We started our study of Ancient Greece by writing down our prior knowledge onto yellow sticky notes and placing them onto a class chart.  From there we grouped our knowledge under similar topics and came up with 'key words' as headings for our knowledge.

Mrs Skilton gave us jig saw puzzles of Ancient Greece pictures to reconstruct and gather information from.  Once we had put the pictures back together we reported back to the rest of the class with the new knowledge we had found out.  It's amazing how much you can learn from pictures!

We then used books and the internet to gather information for our class charts and for our miniposters.  We have learned skimming and scanning, notetaking and notemaking and are well on our way to answering our questions.  We will soon be ready to present our findings and answers on our miniposters.

Lucy's Speech on Puppies

Recently in Room 9, Lucy surprised and impressed us with her speech on puppies.  

She was so well prepared with a photo slideshow, a movie,  and speech cards.  We (and Lucy's parents who came to support her) are so proud of her and can't wait to hear her next speech.

Well done Lucy, you were awesome!

Congratulations Harper!

Recently, Harper won this very impressive cup for being the Best Rugby Tackler for Grades 7, 8, 9 and 10 at the Eastbourne Rugby Club Prizegiving.

Congratulations Harper, we are so proud of you :0) 

Production Week - The Uno Effect

Yay, production week is here at last!  

We have been practicing our acting and dance routines for some weeks now.  We are sooo excited about performing in costume for our families and friends.  

We hope to see you at one of our performances this week!  Here is a sneaky peek of us in costume!

The Impossible Bridge

This week the Kea Reading group read a book called The Impossible Bridge, in which a class of children were expected to design and construct model bridges.  After reading the book in class the Kea Group had to construct a bridge of their own at home and bring it along to school for strength testing the next day.  We had fun testing the bridges with a toy car and are pleased to announce they all passed the test! Sam and his Dad went one step further and constructed a magnificent bridge which was admired by all!  Well done Sam and Simon!

We miss you Nora!

On the last day of term we were very happy to receive an email from Nora! We wrote her back straight away and sent her this photo as well. Here is the email we wrote:

Dear Nora,

We miss you heaps! We were so excited to get your email!!! Mrs Naik tried to surprise us BUT she gave it away by mistake!!

Amy and Mia are SOOO LUCKY to be seeing you soon, they are bringing you some cards that we have made.

We loved looking at your photos, it looks like you are having so much fun! There is a photo of you in Japan and it looks like you have something on your head, what is it?

We have so many questions to ask you about your life in Germany!

1. Who are your best friends?
2. Is the bottom photo a picture of your school?
3. When you went to Japan did you learn any Japanese?
4. Who is your teacher is she/he nice (Or is she/he like the Trunchbull!?)?
5. How long did you stay in Japan?

It's a pity you missed watching Matilda with us, we had buttery popcorn and we all wished you were with us! We all want to come to Germany and visit you now! Maybe we can try to squeeze into Amy and Mia's suitcase!

Maybe after the holidays we can arrange to SKYPE with you?

Orca Whales!

As part of our inquiry, The Wonder of Whales, we have been learning about TOOTHED whales. We watched this interesting video about "wave washing." Wave washing is a smart technique that Orca whales use to catch seals! We felt a bit sad for the seal but it all made more sense once we learned about the significance of FOOD CHAINS! Enjoy!
